Santa Fe finished off an unbeaten regular season with a victory over Merritt Island Christian on Friday night.

“They played with a lot of heart and finished the season strong,” Santa Fe Catholic head coach Billy Dickerson said after the game. “They didn’t let up. They kept going hard and made us turn down the volume.”

The Hawks (9-0) scored 34 points in the first quarter. Junior running back Damario Vanover scored his first touchdown, a 6-yard run, less than three minutes after the game’s start. He followed that up with a 33-yard scoring run with 7:48 in the first quarter.

After senior receiver Henry Perry IV scored on a touchdown pass with five minutes left in the first, Tyree Rodman scored on an 18-yard interception return on the next drive. Rodman was also a force on offense finishing the game with 108 yards on four carries and two touchdowns. Quarterback Walker May completed all of his three passes in the game for 49 yards and a touchdown.

Santa Fe Catholic held its opponent to 88 total offensive yards Friday night.

The postseason begins for the Hawks next week. They will host Maitland Orangewood Christian in the first round of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference playoffs at 7 p.m. on Friday.
