St. Edward's wins conference title

Nick Succes scored 25 points to help St. Edward's School upset state-ranked Deltona-Trinity Christian 61-52 in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday at Central Florida Christian Academy in Orlando.

The Pirates (10-8) broke open a close game in the third quarter, when they outscored Trinity Christian 22-11 to take a 45-32 lead. The Eagles (15-5) are ranked No. 6 in Class 2A in the FABC-Source Hoops poll.

"We set a goal at the beginning of the year to win the league championship," St. Edward's coach Greg Zugrave said. "It has been great to watch this team grow and develop. Nick Succes was outstanding."

Succes was named tournament Most Valuable Player. Thomas Bockhorst scored 14 points and was selected to the all-tournament team.

Armie Archibald scored a game-high 27 points for Trinity Christian and Marlon Bradley scored 13.
