Strong bench play leads Central to 12th win

SSAC Basketball Tournament

Ten players scored, with the bench accounting for 31 points Friday, as Fort Pierce Central High School's boys basketball team defeated Fort Pierce Westwood 82-60 at Westwood.

Cameron Hicks scored 17 points for Fort Pierce Central (12-4), which scored 29 first-quarter points.

Dylan Torello added 12 points and six rebounds. Malik Dunn had 11 points, and Calvin Bryant scored 10.

Meshun Atkins scored a game-high 18 points for Fort Pierce Westwood. Donarson Louis added 12 points, and Andrew Smith had eight.

Fort Pierce Central plays Wednesday at Martin County.

Okeechobee 80, IMG Academy Gray 57: Shaquoy Ferrol had a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds as the Brahmans won in the Chobee Nation Shootout at Okeechobe.

Demetrius Clark hit four 3-point goals and finished with 20 points for Okeechobee (12-3).

J-Quan Ferrol had 13 points and eight rebounds, while Mark Youmans scored 12 points.

Graesen Meystadt scored 20 points for IMG Academy Gray.

Okeechobee hosts Elite Academy at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Heritage 88, South Fork 77 (2 OT): John Stewart scored 27 points and Jared Mowry hit seven 3-pointers for 21 points as the Panthers won a District 13-7A game at Palm Bay.

Caleb Edwards had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds for South Fork (3-14, 2-3).

KJ Lee had 17 points. Nick Sossi had 10 points and five assists, while Nochley Rene had 10 points and five rebounds.

South Fork hosts Port St. Lucie on Tuesday.

Florida Prep Academy 70, Community Christian 38: Montel Stewart scored a game-high 28 points as the Falcons won a District 6-2A game at Anderson Middle School in Stuart.

Florida Prep (14-4), which finished with seven 3-pointers, outscored the Cougars 36-16 in the second half.

Calvin Van Eyk scored 15 points and Bryce Nickerson added 14 for Community Christian (11-9).

Community Christian plays Master's Academy at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Bill Marine Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Vero Beach.

St. Andrew's Episcopal 47, The Pine School 46: Noah Kolter hit seven 3-point goals and finished with a game-high 29 points in the Knights' loss at Hobe Sound.

Zach Scott just missed a triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebound and nine assists for Pine School (0-7).

St. Andrew's Episcopal is 3-12.

Pine School hosts Boca Raton Christian on Tuesday.

Brevard HEAT 69, Master's Academy 68: Drew Wright hit six 3-pointers and recorded a double-double with a game-high 45 points and 14 rebounds in the Patriots' loss in Vero Beach.

Luke Wright added 12 points and seven assists for Master's Academy (6-6), which played its third game without two starters who were sidelined by illness.

Joey Mucha scored 25 points for Brevard HEAT.

Master's plays Community Christian at 4 p.m. Saturday at Vero Beach.

Westminster Academy 66, John Carroll Catholic 41: Jason Strong and Zack Scott scored 16 points apiece as the Lions won on Howard Avril Court in Fort Pierce.

Westminster (19-3), which starts two 6-foot-8 post players, won its eighth consecutive game.

Jahfari Harvey had 10 points and five rebounds for John Carroll (6-9). Myles Youngblood had 10 points and two rebounds.

John Carroll hosts Somerset College Prep on Tuesday.

Benjamin 65, John Carroll Catholic 57 (Thursday): Ben Lubarsky scored 23 points as the Bucs overcame a 12-point first-half deficit to beat the Golden Rams in Palm Beach Gardens.

Kris McFarlane had 21 points and eight rebounds for John Carroll (6-8), which led 21-9 after one quarter, but Benjamin answered with a 27-5 run in the second quarter.

Ashton Singleton added 17 points and three assists, while UJ Miller had eight points, three assists and two steals.

No report: Bayside at Jensen Beach, Morningside Academy at Covenant Christian, Somerset College Prep at Benjamin, St. Lucie West Centennial vs. Piper at Chobee Nation Shootout, Martin County vs. Morrow (Georgia) at MLK Classic.

SSAC PLAYOFFS

FAU High 45, St. Edward's 41: Remy Brown scored 14 points as the Owls won in the South-Central division of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference Tournament.

Brandon Succes scored 15 points for St. Edward's (6-8).

FAU is 11-6.

In other games, Berean Christian defeated Boca Raton Christian 74-40, and International Community defeated Highlands Christian 61-49.
